
Data Analyst
Position Title: Data Analyst
Reports To: Christy White, Principal
Position Overview:
The purpose of this position is to provide the data management and data analysis expertise necessary to support the design, management and delivery of quantitative custom and syndicated marketing research projects that meet our clients' strategic objectives and achieve Cogent's revenue and profit objectives.
The Data Analyst is responsible for providing programming and data management to support the execution and analysis of multiple, cross-industry research projects such as brand equity and ad tracking, customer satisfaction/loyalty tracking, market segmentation and analysis, conjoint and trade-off studies, pricing studies and new product/service testing.
General responsibilities will include sample preparation and management, programming, data management, vendor oversight, tabulation and quality control for small and large-scale research projects.
Detailed Responsibilities:
Research Design and Data Management
- Actively participate with project teams in the design and execution of sampling and weighting, the execution of ad hoc runs and the planning and execution of univariate, crosstabular and multivariate analyses.
- Manipulate and manage small to very large datasets including but not limited to cleaning, merging, matching and rotating as well as pulling representative and/or stratified samples and creating new variables using complex logic.
- Program cross tabulations (i.e., banner runs) using SPSS and Wincross, or other software tools as needed.
- Maintain proficiency in web study design tools and survey development such as ConfirmIT.
Quality Assurance
- Check data sets and tables, and review logic and consistency to ensure that deliverables meet the highest standards of accuracy and data integrity.
- Fully document processes, procedures and logic used in managing and manipulating datasets.
- Verify logic and skip patterns of CATI and web-based surveys.
Team Collaboration
- With Project Directors, select and manage quality vendors to ensure all project criteria are met from a specifications, timing and budget perspective. Monitor project profitability.
- Collaborate with the project team to ensure analysis and coding that supports a concise, compelling and high impact PowerPoint presentation for clients.

Qualifications:
Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of data manipulation experience in a marketing research environment.
- Well-developed organizational and project management skills and experience managing multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
- Well-developed analytic and critical-thinking skills.
- Prior vendor sourcing and management experience.
- Solid understanding of quantitative research techniques and methodologies and demonstrated data analysis experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work seamlessly with peers, managers and vendors.
- Aptitude for creative thinking and the ability to think and act independently with sound business judgment.
- Energetic self-motivator able to function productively in a team environment.
- Ability to develop highly professional client deliverables with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency in SPSS or SAS. Experience or familiarity in Wincross is also preferred.
- Prior experience with web survey design tools, such as ConfirmIT.
- Advanced expertise with Microsoft Word and Excel and working knowledge of PowerPoint.
Education
- Bachelor's degree or higher in business, marketing, mathematics or the sciences.
